Risk Management
The Department of Defense vision of modern defense infrastructure is one of joint, collaborative, and interoperable systems. An integral component in fulfilling this vision is the effective management of program risks in acquisition and sustainment processes. Defense contractors and acquisition and sustainment program managers need to handle risks in light of these mission objectives. RiskVue was designed to provide this capability off-the-shelf, while fully integrating with other program functions like contract and CDRL management, integrated master scheduling, long range planning, and CM.
RiskVue enables management of a program's risks and risk processes off-the-shelf, identifying risks by customizable attributes including name, status, contractor, risk owner, IPT, and others. Once identified, severity and probability parameters are used to generate risk summary charts at the risk and program level, and related mitigation strategies may be viewed graphically in the context of their reduction on overall risk factor. RiskVue's "Risk Watchlist" provides a quick snapshot of a program's most critical risk activity, displaying color-coded indicators of various risk thresholds. User-defined business rules can then notify users via email of risk indicator changes, and required review processes may be launched automatically.
Incorporating RiskVue into an integrated acquisition or sustainment business environment enables performing risk management within the context of a program's overall management. This includes associating risks to the specific contract milestones that they concern, such that mitigation planning can evaluate the impact on milestone dates and completion. Risks may be related to specific system components - parts, software, configuration items - so that a complete understanding of baseline impact occurs during the risk planning process. The result is risk management integrated with other critical program processes, increasing its accuracy and effectiveness, while driving down related program costs
