Nuclear Missiles & Missile Defense
The threat posed by ballistic missiles and the proliferation of their technology is one of the most serious issues facing the United States and its allies around the globe today. Two of the major components of the defense complex addressing this issue are the strategic intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) arsenal and missile defense technology.
At the center of the US ballistic missile fleet is the LGM-30G Minuteman. The Minuteman is a strategic weapon system that uses a ballistic missile capable of reaching intercontinental targets. These missiles are dispersed in and are launched from hardened silos, protecting them against attack. As a result of US strategic arms policy, Minuteman is presently the only land-based ICBM in the nation's arsenal.
Located at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, Utah, the ICBM System Program Office (SPO), OOALC/LM, develops, acquires, and supports the Minuteman ICBMs. This entails acquisition, systems engineering, and depot repair support. The SPO also is responsible for equipment replacements and upgrade programs to maintain the missiles as needed.
In support of their mission, the ICBM SPO uses TopVue technology to manage the system configuration data associated with the fielded missile systems. Elements of TopVue's configuration management module, CMvue, track fielded missile hardware configurations, track software version number to fielded system, and manage all program drawings and documentation. As replacement and upgrade modifications are critical to maintaining the fielded weapon systems in a deployable state, TopVue supports the planning and implementation of these activities as well.
